FURTHER ACTION.

I have now been able to examine

more closely the representations of your

constituent Mr. A.J. Stephens of the Hong

Kong Police, about whom you wrote to me on

the 17th of June.

At the outset I should explain

that the petition, a copy of which was

forwarded by Mr. Stephens has not yet reached

me from the Governor of Hong Kong, and until

I receive it with the Governor's observations,

it will not be possible to pronounce

upon its merits.

I can say however that as a result

need y

of urgent recruitment of certain Home

fromme UK Landise Porcis

policemen for service in Hong Kong during

the period immediately prior to the re-occupation

of the Colony, some details of the pensionable

status of these men, of whom Stephens was

one, were unfortunately not fully borne in mind

with the result that a good deal of sorting

out has had to be done.

I think however

that as a result of further correspondence

with the Governor this aspect of the

matter is being satisfactorily resolved.
